Incentive Trips are Making a Comeback

13 May 2010

Companies are once again rewarding their best employees and representatives with motivational trips. During earlier recessionary times companies feared appearing extravagant in the midst of a steep economic downturn but as things begin to look up, companies are recognising the value of motivational rewards for employees once again and new reward schemes are being tailored to reflect this. This time around, excursions are likely to be shorter, less expensive and more focused on public service than pampering.

According to Brenda Anderson, CEO of Site, an organisation of incentive travel executives, "the realisation is that you've got to reward your top performers if you want your company to remain strong. It is common sense, it is about rewarding your employees, making them feel connected to your company, your culture, your values.”

As companies reintroduce incentive trips, they are developing new ways to ensure the design of the reward scheme and qualifying targets is smart. Businesses are choosing more cost-effective locations and spending less per participant. Luxury elements of a program are now being replaced with elements of Corporate Social Responsibility, whereby participants can give something back to the local or global community as part of their motivational experience.
