Rio delights for Conferences

9 April 2010

‘If there was a contest to select the world’s most popular conference locations, there’s little doubt that Rio would be top of the list. It has everything – sun, sea, dramatic landscapes, history, diverse culture, and above all, samba.’ Rita Payne sums up her experience of Rio de Janeiro following her visit there for the World Urban Forum 2010.

In March 2010, 13,718 delegates from 150 countries around the world attended the World Urban Forum in Rio de Janeiro. All of the delegates had to be fed, watered, and entertained, and the city was more than ready to cater for their demands.

With accommodation and taxis booked up all over the city, and restaurants, shops and cafes buzzing with delegates, this conference offered huge potential for Rio to showcase its potential as a world class conference destination, and seemingly, it did not disappoint - In her article, Rita Payne provides a vivid and intriguing account of her Rio experience from cab hunting, accommodation and petty crime to the electric nightlife, music and dance scene, mouth watering cuisine and a weekend packed full of sight seeing.

There is little doubt that Rio has won Rita’s heart and with the city set to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the Summer Olympics in 2016, both of which are expected to attract even greater numbers than the World Urban Forum, Rio is more than ready to take on the challenge.
