The Middle East delivers for Generation X

13 November 2008

Sociologists tell us that the baby-boomer generation (aged between 45-65 years) is gradually being replaced in the upper echelons of the corporate universe by Generation X (aged 25-45 years) and in turn this generation is demanding a completely new menu of destination experiences from corporate meeting and event planners.

Padraic Gilligan, Managing Director of Ovation Global DMC and SITE president 2008 examines The Middle East as a destination and its potential to satisfy the every changing needs of Generation X. Gilligan observes that while the baby-boomer generation liked its luxury and opulence and gravitated towards destinations such as Hawaii, the Caribbean, Paris and Rome, Generation X is looking for an altogether more authentic experience with added culture, novelty and adventure.

The Middle East has offered us fantastic destination experiences for decades now with the whirl wind arrival of Dubai and Abu Dhabi as prominent incentive destinations, but with ever changing market demands, The Middle East delivers yet again as Oman comes to the fore and positions itself as the cultural centre for a new emerging Arabia - the place "where luxury and style are infused with traditional values of hospitality and respect".
